In this fast-paced life, I believe it is easy to get consumed by work, family, social media, etc. and forget the importance of finding time for stillness in general and in marriage. I, myself, am guilty of not frequently finding the time for both Axel and me. Stillness is not being lazy, and I do not associat it with procrastination. It is when we understand that our bodies and minds need a break from the fast-paced daily life. To slow down, and detach ourselves from every worry, reflect, and even accumulate new energy from perhaps a burnout.
It dawned on me that we have not recently done much together. We decided to quickly plan a brunch and spa afternoon. During brunch, we could immediately tell that we both missed finding time for stillness, and away from everything. Just for us! And, while Leo was having a great time at his granddad, we had a long conversation, discovered things about us that we had not talked about, took a nap, and had the time to meditate. All these are small practices that had a positive outcome on us.
I do not have a recipe on how one can practise stillness. But, I believe that finding a suitable place, which does not necessarily have to be a spa-like we tried, and the time is a good start. Next, is relaxing the body and detaching the mind from all sorts of thoughts when trying to be still. However, I find it challenging to just let my mind be, as it is the time when ideas seem to pop-up in my head. I am trying to get better in switching my it off when necessary.
I am confident that when I try to take time to be still, I try to re-connect with myself. Axel and I felt a sense of happiness, and when my sister saw us, the first thing she mentioned was that my face looked so relaxed. Before we left, I was not optimistic. I had so much going on in my head. But then, after spa and brunch, there I was feeling light on my shoulders and in my heart. Stillness in marriage is so important. It requires planning and regularly finding time to be still. We plan on creating time to practice stillness more often.
