Back to school, back to basics. With the warm season now behind us, I can’t stop thinking about the cold months that are slowly approaching us. Let me be honest; I am not ready to let go of summer yet. It’s getting super chilly, and I am still clinging on to my short dress and skirts. I’ll be incorporating them into my daily outfits. Most probably paired with chunky sweaters, jeans and leggings underneath to keep me warm.

Denim and basic tops are more like my regular uniform and most specifically now that I am a student. It pairs so well with any top or blouse depending on what mood and occasion I am dressing up too. At the moment, I am obsessed with mom jeans.  Do you still remember how popular they were in the 90’s? It reminds me of my mom and how much she liked rocking her jeans with a tucked-in shirt and big belts. Although it is hard for me to pull off the same looks as she used to back in the days, I find myself reaching for these jeans over and over again. I love the effortless cool high-waist style and the fact that they hold and keep everything in place.

Combining these Monki mom jeans with a basic red top is in my opinion, a back to school kind of outfit. Paired with sneakers, it is super comfortable, and instead of letting the top sit on top of my jeans as I normally do, I decided to tuck it in. And just like my mom, I added a belt as an accessory.

The other day when I was busy doing my evening skin care routine, what Axel asked me came as a surprise. “Sweetie, how can you always be happy and so positive?” My answer to him “I choose to be happy.”  You know, living a happy life sure does sound good, but the thing is, it is not always as easy as it is said. There are always issues or something that leaves us with worries. And I, for instance often can’t seem to get my head around everything. Though, as I am growing older, the easier it gets to find out what makes me happy or not. I realize that I am more aware of my surroundings, the people I spend my time with and anything that affects my emotions.

To tell you the truth, I was never a happy kind of person. It is a choice I made. My past and the mistakes that I made bothered me so much. I could worry for days. On top of this, I would get so pissed about smalls things that happened in my life. Choosing to be happy meant letting go of my fears and concerns. Worrying too much did not change anything. I started to turn all my experiences into life lessons. And instead of approaching life with negativity, I looked at the bright and good things. My shoulders felt lighter than ever before. I suddenly did not have to worry about the things I could have done differently.

I can’t put it in words how jolly I am when I take the time to be grateful for what I have. Moreover, I do appreciate the woman I’ve become today. It is a simple act that has a positive impact. Once in a while, I like to spend time alone, to be kind to myself and celebrate the small wins. I’m currently putting an effort to be genuinely kind to the people I meet and engage with on a daily basis. It is something that leaves me glowing in the inside. Talking and bonding with other women brightens me up. Through sharing our stories, we inspire, encourage and motivate each other. It makes me even happier.

Last week on Thursday, I had an unusual experience. I woke up early as I normally do.  I was full of positive energy, big smiles and feeling oh so good; I even shared on my Instagram. Hours later, all my plans started to take a different turn. I got super messy, and things got crazy to a point I had a meltdown. What I could not understand was why things were working against me. It was a stressful day, and I knew if I continued with what I was doing, things would get even messier. So, I forced myself to step back.

This scenario reminded me that, no matter how much we want to stay positive and be happy, we do not always have control of everything that occurs in our lives. However, we can learn how to control our approach to such situations and look for ways that can help us experience happiness. Below are some of the things I try whenever I’m going through a stressful day

Take a deep breath

This one is my favourite habit whenever I’m going through a stressful day. Although, once in a while, I do feel like I have a stone lying between my tight chest. Taking deep breaths help me feel calmer and more relaxed. It also helps in reducing the tension between my chest, and my shoulders tend to feel lighter.

Allow yourself to be emotional

I’m that kind of person who gets easily emotional. I think when I allow myself to be emotional, I feel more like a human. Whenever I struggle with letting it all out, I feel more pressure which sometimes leads to no good.

Be gentle with yourself

It’s hard to remember to be gentle with myself when I am going through a bad day. Something to keep in mind in such situations is that it is just a bad day. Focusing on the positive things and reminding myself how great of a woman I am and the things I have achieved. It helps in keeping stress from overtaking my body and mind.

Step back and reduce negative thoughts

It doesn’t cause any harm by stepping back once in a while from all the craziness around us and reduce negative thoughts. It is easy to get blown up and lose sight when feeling stressed out.  I appreciate this kind of moments as they help me worry less about life and all the daily duties I have. Instead, I choose to focus on taking care of myself while also re-charging for another new and fresh day. Besides, I love biking around in the city. It helps reduce stress.

As some of you who follow me on Instagram, you already know that we went for a week-long road trippin in Jutland, Denmark. I was super excited for this trip mostly because I wanted to see more of this country. My first-time road tripping was back in 2014 when Axel used to work in a small town in Sweden. We would drive for hours on the highway, and the funny thing is, I would fall asleep now and then. Who else falls asleep when travelling?😀

It was after this trip that I fell in love with packing my bags, jump in the car and let the road take me somewhere far away. There is so much to see, and the one thing I like most is discovering something new. Usually, when we are on the road, we like to play some country music. This time though, we did not play as much music as we normally do neither did I fall asleep. I wanted to allow myself to be more aware of all the surroundings. To be able to create deep memories of all the places we saw and visited.

We started our trip on the west coast and drove all the way to the German border. The landscape in this part of Denmark consists of dunes, unlike the North which is flat. Along the way, we visited different cities that are rich in history. Axel loved Rudbøl, a small village situated in the Southern part Jutland close one of the Danish and Germany borders. Nature here was insanely beautiful. One of the locals told us that Rudbøl is very famous of the Black Sun. Meaning that the sun gets covered by many birds that are moving from one place to another during September. Would love to go back someday and experience the Black Sun myself.

My favourite stop was at Silkeborg. I have visited this city before on a short visit. Although we did not get to see the whole town, I believe that Silkeborg is full of great outdoor events. We had lunch and later hired a canoe. It was my first-time experience and in my opinion, a good exercise for the arms.😀 We rounded our trip at a Rose Park where we enjoyed a walk and the smell of roses.
